The Pinn Medical Centre

Clinics

Contraception/Family Planning

We provide a full contraceptive service including coil fitting, 'the pill', regular check-ups and emergency contraception. Appointments for these can be made during any surgery.

Maternity Services

We provide full antenatal and postnatal care. The community midwife and health visitors also attend the surgery. Please see your doctor as soon as possible once you know you are pregnant to discuss your care.

Child Health

We provide a full child health surveillance service, including immunisations and eight week development checks. These clinics are held on Thursday and Friday afternoons at 2.00 pm by appointment. Health visitors are in attendance for general advice. These clinics are for well babies only. If your child is unwell please make an appointment during regular surgery hours.

Women's Health

We recommend that women should have a cervical smear test every three years up to the age of 65, unless they have had a hysterectomy for a benign condition. Menopausal symptoms and HRT may be discussed with your doctor or the practice nurses.

We also recommend that women between the ages of 50-70 should have a mammogram every three years at the local breast-screening centre.

Intimate Examinations

If you require an intimate examination you are entitled to have a chaperone present if you wish. Please tell the doctor or nurse if you would like the surgery to provide a chaperone.

Diabetic Clinic

All diabetic patients are advised to attend at least annually for a full check and to discuss management of their diabetes. Clinics are held weekly by appointment.

Asthma And Respiratory Disease Clinic

All patients with asthma or chronic bronchitis are advised to have a review of their care at least once a year. Clinics for supervision and monitoring of these conditions are held regularly by appointment.

Counsellor

A counsellor attends the medical centre weekly to see patients referred by the doctors.

Dietician

A community dietician attends the medical centre weekly to offer advice on diet, weight reduction and diabetes. If you would like to see the dietician you should first discuss this with your doctor who will make a referral if appropriate.

Minor Surgery (for warts, lumps and bumps)

The doctors undertake minor surgery. If you need surgical treatment please consult your doctor who will advise whether the treatment may be safely dealt with in surgery or should be referred to hospital.

Health Assessment

All new patients are encouraged to attend for a health check with the practice nurses.

If you have not consulted with a health professional for three years, you are entitled to request an appointment.

Travel Immunisation And Protection From Malaria

If you are travelling to an area where immunisation may be required please make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss the latest recommendations at least six weeks prior to your departure. Most vaccines are held in stock. A charge will be made for hepatitis B (if required for travel only), yellow fever, meningitis and rabies. Advice may only be given to patients in person for reasons of confidentiality. Advice may also be found on the government website:
